Maha shunya ke mahaan vistaar main hai .. Aavishkar.
As a kid and as a fan of Mr. Rajesh Khanna .. I always watched all his movies .. good .. bad .. commercial and arty. One such movie which I saw in my growing years was “Aavishkar”. The film discovers the relation between that one enchanted hour and the routine twenty three hours in the life of a man and his wife.
It discovers the relation between dreams and realities.
AAVISHKAR reassures that the relation between the man and his beloved is as profound and timeless as the relation between the sun and the earth.
I couldn’t understand the movie .. but what stayed with me was a poem which Mr. Rajesh Khanna recites towards the end of the movie.
The poem is in pure hindi .. which Icouldn’t understand but the way he narrated .. stayed in my mind all these years.
Now years later .. I got hold of the DVD and saw it.
It’s a must see movie and has great performances by both Rajesh and Sharmila.
Cant copy paste the entire movie here .. but here is the poem and as well the climax dialogues between the main protagonist .. which actually explains what movie stands for.
I have written the English translation as well, as the movie is sub titled.
The film was produced and directed by great Basu Bhattacharya.
The dialogues were by revered poet and hindi writer Gyandev Agnihotri.
So here it is.
Maha shunya ke mahaan vistaar main hai ..
ek sunhera sansaar
Ghar hai, wohi suraj aur dharti ka
janmi hai wohi zindagi
paida hua .. hai pyar
pyar ka .. prakash ka .. suraj hai maha pushp
usi ki mahak se, mahakta hai manav mann
samay ki .. shrijanki, suraj hai pahli muskaan
usi se hai unchaar pavno ka .. jeevan sangeet
suhag ka, suhag raat ka suraj hai pahla pati
aata hai roz naye rang se
jaata hai roz naye dhang se
sajta hai .. sajata hai .. pran priya dharti ko
mausam ki mehndi se
bijuri ki bindi se
indradhanushi maahvaar se
badal ke kajar se
yog ka .. bhog ka .. shashvat .. sambhog ka
suraj hai maha yogi
riti aur rivaaj hai usi ki parampara
karyakram usi se
mayakram usi se
drushya bhram usi se
swarn vaham usi se
satya .. satya swapn ……
Amar: Is kavita main kuch panktiyan thi lekin woh mujhe yaad nahi aa rahi …
Mansi: Kaunsi panktiyan
Amar: Un lino ka matlab tha .. ki dharti suraj ke charon aur ghumti hai .. jab se ye sansaar bana tab se woh barabar ghum rahi hai .. ghoomti hi jaa rahi hai.
Mansi: Tarika to acha hai ..
Amar: Kaunsa?
Mansi: Yahi mere daddy .. meri mummy se demand karte rahe .. ki tum .. tum sirf meri patni ho, isliye hamesha mere charon aur ghumo. Yahi mere daddy ke daddy mere dadi ko command karte rahe ki tum sirf mere bachon ki maa ho, isliye mere charon aur chakkar lagao. Jaanti hoon Amar, tumne bhi hamesha yahi chaha hai.
Amar: Nahi Mansi .. humne isse zyada chaha .. kyon chaha hai .. kyon ki woh chah hamari shaadi se nahi .. pyar se paida hui hai. Hamara pyar jo hai na Mansi .. yaad karo shaadi ke pahle ke din … yaad karo .. shaadi ke pahle hum jab milte the .. chup chup kar milte the … kitni der ke liye milte the? Average nikalo to ek ghante ke liye … us ek ghante main hum dono … sabse ache kapde .. sabse achi baat chit .. sabse ache taur tarike lekar .. kam se kam time main ek dusre ko zyada se zyada impress karne ki koshish karte the. Us ek ghante wali tum aur us ghante wala main kitne ache the.
Mansi: Aur aaj ye ek ghante wale hum .. kitne kharaab hai.
Amar: Kharaab nahi hai Mansi .. kuch kar nahi paate.
Mansi: Shaadi se pahle koi aisi baatain nahi thi jo tum kar nahi paate the.
Amar: Tab main premi tha .. aaj pati hoon .. tab zindagi ek sapna thi .. hum hum the .. aaj zindagi ek laachari hai .. ek riti hai rivaaj hai … hamare hum ke do tukde ho gaye .. tumhara main aur mera main.
Mansi: Haan Amar .. hamare main hamesha main main karte rahe. Phir baat utar aai tu tu main main par … bas yahi karte rahe.
Amar: Kitni ajeeb baat hai .. humen apni takleef, apni crisis pata hai .. phir bhi kuch nahi ho paata.
Mansi: Amar, kahin na kahin se to seekhna hi padta hai. Aaj ye suraj wali baat se seekh lo na .. suraj ki vajah se dharti hai .. maana .. lekin dharti ki vajah se suraj hai .. ye bhi to maano.
Amar: Mansi, woh panktiyan yaad aa gai …
Janmi hai dharti suraj se
phir bhi suraj ko dharti hai
suraj hai suraj dharti se
par dharti, phir bhi dharti hai.
========================================================
The earth always revolves round the sun.
Times are always the same.
The brightness of love never fades.
That is what brightens the human mind.
It spreads it radiance everywhere.
That is what make life worthwhile.
The first dream is the nuptial night.
Everyday it springs a new surprise.
It makes life beautiful.
It is adorned by all finery.
And the sun of chastity is marriage.
And ritual are tradition of that.
It encompasses everything.
Truth is …
Amar (Rajesh Khanna) There were more lines to this poem which I have forgotten.
Mansi: (Sharmila Tagore) What were those lines?
Amar: The interpretation of those lines was .. that the earth revolves around the sun. And this pattern is followed since the universe was created. And it continues to do so.
Mansi: It’s a novel way.
Amar: For what?
Mansi: My father demanded from mother. That she being his wife should always be around him. This is what my grandfather commanded from my mother. That as the mother of his kids she should always revolve around him. Amar, I know that you always wanted it that way.
Amar: No, we had greater expectations. And our expectations were a result of love and not marriage. Our love …. try to recollect our courtship days.
During courtship we would meet discreetly. We’d meet hardly for an hour. And in that time we’d put, …. our best behavior to impress each other. So we liked each other.
Mansi: And today, we are at our worst behavior.
Amar: We are just helpless.
Mansi: Before marriage there was nothing that you couldn’t do.
Amar: Then I was a lover but now I’m the husband. Everyday was idyllic then but now life is a compulsion. It is a society evil and we are torn into two parts. We both had egos. And our egos clashed.
Mansi: Neither of us wanted to accept defeat.
Amar: Isn’t it ironical that despite knowing our crisis, … we are helpless to do anything.
Mansi: Amar, we have to make a start somewhere. I agree the earth is sustained by the sun. But you also must accept that the earth complements the sun.
Amar: Mansi, I remembered those lines.
The sun sustains the earth but still the sun needs the earth.
The sun and the earth … complement each other.
For my wife and me (we have been married 36 years), Aavishkar is a personal movie. This poem that I had transcribed in Hindi a few years ago, finally had a chance to be edited after reading your blog. Do you know who the poet may have been? Is it attributed to the script writer? Thanks.
i never thought that i will get this poem, its so beautiful, thanks
Thank you! What u have shared is exactly what I’d have written about the movie and my memories of not understanding it as a kid. But loving the poetry. Been searching for this for years.
Thank you!
I never thought that I will get it. But see I tried my luck and got it. Thank you so much for this. Avishkar has always been a favourite movie, since I could understand relationships.
Namaste, ye kavita yahan par sajha karne ke liye bahut shukriya. Aavishkaar, Grihapravesh aur Anubhav, teenon hi films ke dialogues bahut adbhut hain. They are like an Institution in themself. Agar ho paya, toh sab likhna chahungi apni note book ke pannon mein. Kitna kuch hum chahte hain, ho paata hai ya nahin, sirf waqt bata sakta hai.
Thanks Babli for liking it … vakay mein teeno hi filmon ke samvaad aur geet adbhut the aur aaj bhi yaad kiye jaate hai … teeno hi filmein Basu Bhattacharya ne direct ki thi .. sach kaha hum chahte to bahut kuch hai magar pata nahi haasil ho pata hai ko nahi
